Matemwe, Kiwengwa and the northeast

Matemwe is often used for quieter stays and excursions marketed around the Mnemba area. Ask exactly where the boat departs, how long the transfer takes and what marine rules apply. “Mnemba snorkeling” does not necessarily mean landing on the privately managed island.

Kiwengwa has a long beach with several larger properties. Confirm whether you expect to eat mainly at the resort and whether the quoted plan includes meals, drinking water, taxes and transfers.

Choose the northeast when a property-led beach stay or particular dive operator is the priority. Review current sea conditions instead of relying on a generic claim of “world-class visibility.”

Stone Town: add history, not another beach day

Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage city shaped by Indian Ocean trade and cultural exchange. One or two nights can allow a guided heritage walk, markets, food and easier access to the airport or ferry.

When to visit Zanzibar

• June through October is commonly chosen for generally drier weather.
