How to Apply for a Tanzania eVisa Online: Step-by-Step
Posted on 8/13/2026 by Tanzania Official eVisa Immigration Assistance Service
This walkthrough is for travelers whose nationality can use this website. It is not a substitute for Tanzania Immigration's own portal, and it is the wrong process if your country page says visa-exempt or service unavailable.
Quick answer: Check the nationality checker, gather the document checklist, then start at Apply. Use the travel passport, an arrival date at least 12 days away, and allow up to 15 business days.

Before you open the form
Complete this list first. Skipping it is how applications stall after payment.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Nationality result | Confirms whether to apply here, skip the eVisa, or use another route |
| Passport | Same book you will carry; typically at least six months' validity from arrival and an unused page |
| Arrival date | Must be at least 12 days from today on this form |
| Entry point | Must be a designated airport, seaport or land border |
| Visa type | Tourist, business, transit or multiple-entry tourist where offered |
| Photo and bio-page scan | Clear, uncropped, no glare |
| Email you can open on the trip | Decisions and document requests go there |
| Fee | Government fee + US$59.99 service fee per passenger on the fees page |
Visa-exempt travelers should stop after the nationality check. Referral applicants should not compress this flow into a last-minute safari. If the country page says this service is unavailable, paying here will not create a government approval.
Have a second device or a printed passport copy so you can type numbers while looking at the bio page. Memory is how passport digits get swapped.
Step 1: Contact details and visa type
Start at /apply. The form collects:
- Full name as in the passport
- Email and phone, including the correct country calling code
- Destination Tanzania (already selected on this site)
- Visa type
- Arrival and departure dates
- Port type and port name (for example Kilimanjaro / JRO, Zanzibar / ZNZ, Dar es Salaam / DAR)
Copy names character for character, including middle names. A missing middle name that appears on the passport is a mismatch.
Pick the visa type from the trip you will actually take, not from the cheapest row:
- Tourism includes safari and Zanzibar holidays
- Business is for business activity, not a more “serious looking” holiday
- Transit is for continuing to another country
- U.S. tourist travelers may be shown a multiple-entry option; that product is not a universal upgrade. See Tanzania eVisa for US citizens
If the arrival date is inside 12 days, change the trip or do not submit. Do not enter a false later date. Departure cannot be before arrival. The stay you request should match the ticket, not an optimistic extra month you have not booked.
Port names should be the first Tanzania immigration point. A European or Gulf hub is not a Tanzania port. Nairobi is Kenya.
Step 2: Passengers
Add every person who needs an eVisa on this itinerary, including children. Nationality is chosen from the countries this service can process. Visa-exempt and service-unavailable passports are not listed there on purpose—if someone's country is missing, go back to the checker instead of picking a neighbour's nationality.
Each passenger needs:
- Full name
- Nationality
- Passport number
- Date of birth
- Gender as offered on the form
A group workflow still produces individual visas. One adult's approval does not cover a child. The family/group guide explains the per-group limit. The children's visa guide covers consent letters.
Date of birth must match the passport. A one-digit error is enough for a bounce.
Step 3: Payment
You will see the government fee for the selected visa type plus the service fee, multiplied by passengers. Pay only on this site's payment step. Keep the confirmation with the application reference.
If the card fails, stay in the same application. A second application is not a retry button. If the total looks wrong, you probably selected the wrong visa type or passenger count—fix that before a second charge. Read Tanzania eVisa fees.
This service states that service fees are returned if the application is rejected. Read the refund policy before you pay. A refused visa is not compensation for a cancelled safari.
Step 4: Documents
Upload what the form requests for that visa type. Typical files:
- Passport bio page, all four corners visible
- A recent applicant photograph
- Itinerary or accommodation evidence
- Invitation, employer letter or onward ticket when the category needs it
Do not screenshot a cropped corner of the passport. Do not use a filtered selfie. Do not upload a passport you will not carry. Do not upload a yellow-fever card in place of the bio page.
If the status later asks for more files, add them to this application. Filename language does not matter as much as readability: a 40-kilobyte dark photo will fail no matter what you named it.
After you submit
- Save the application reference.
- Watch the email used in Step 1, including spam.
- Allow up to 15 business days. See processing time.
- When approved, print the document and keep a copy offline. Do not edit the PDF.
- Travel with the same passport, the approval, onward travel evidence and any extra papers immigration may ask for.
Admission is still decided at the border.
How to read application statuses
Wording varies with the file, but treat it as this service's workflow, not as a boarding pass:
- Waiting for payment: the visa has not been paid; the processing window has not started
- Collecting documents: something is still missing or unclear
- Processing: the complete paid file is in the published window
- Special outcome screens (cancelled, chargeback, result sent): follow the page; do not open a duplicate
If you need help, contact support with the reference number, not with “the one from last Tuesday.”
Mistakes that send people back to the start
- Applying despite a visa-exempt or unavailable nationality page
- Selecting transit to save money on a two-week safari
- Arrival date inside the 12-day minimum
- Passport number typed from memory
- Paying, then creating a second application because the first felt slow
- Renewing the passport after approval without replacing the visa
- Arriving at an entry point that was never declared
- One form covering two different nationalities by guessing the dropdown
If you are stuck, open the nationality page first, not a second Apply tab. US, UK and Indian walkthroughs of products and ports are separate on purpose: US, UK, India.
Nationality-specific notes
- US citizens — multiple-entry tourist product as listed
- UK citizens — single-entry tourist as listed; name-change passports
- Indian citizens — OCI is not a passport
- Zanzibar — one Tanzania visa, not a second island visa
- eVisa vs visa on arrival
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
You can start from Apply. If you register, use the same email as the application so you can find the file again.
Can I change dates after payment?
Contact support with the reference number. Do not edit an approval PDF yourself. Date changes can require a new review.
Can one form cover my partner and children?
You can add passengers on the same itinerary, within the group limit. Each person still needs their own passport and documents.
Where do I apply?
Use Apply on this website only after the nationality checker says the service is available.
