Tanzania eVisa for Indian Citizens: Requirements, Fees and Application

Indian passport holders are eligible to use this Tanzania eVisa service. India is not on Tanzania's visa-exempt list. Apply with the Indian passport you will present at the border, not with an OCI card as if it were a passport.

Quick answer: Use the India requirements page. If it still shows this service as available, prepare the document checklist, allow up to 15 business days, and keep your arrival date at least 12 days from the day you apply.

Do Indian citizens need a Tanzania eVisa?

For ordinary tourism, safari, Zanzibar holidays, business visits or transit, Indian citizens need a visa. Start every trip with the India page because service availability and government rules can change.

This website is an application-assistance service. Tanzania Immigration decides the visa and the landing. A previous Kenya eVisa, a Schengen sticker or an unused U.S. B1/B2 does not substitute for Tanzania.

Passport, OCI and dual nationality

DocumentCan you apply with it here?
Valid Indian passportYes, this is the document the guide assumes
OCI card without a passportNo. OCI is not a Tanzania visa and not a travel passport for this form
Indian passport plus a later foreign passportUse the passport you will actually fly on, and open that nationality's page
Passport due to expire within six months of arrivalRenew first, then apply

Airline counters in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru or Hyderabad will look at the passport in the booking. If that book is Indian, this page applies. If it is a newly issued foreign passport, stop and use that country page instead.

Tourist, business or transit

Purpose of the actual tripUseDo not use it for
Safari, beaches, visiting family or friendsTourist eVisa (single entry, up to 90 days on this site's listing)Paid employment
Meetings, short business activity, many conferencesBusiness eVisaA holiday relabelled as business to look more official
Genuine onward travel through TanzaniaTransit eVisa (up to 7 days)A full Tanzania holiday

Most India–Tanzania leisure itineraries are tourist: northern circuit, Zanzibar, or both. A week in Serengeti plus Zanzibar is not transit.

The multiple-entry tourist product listed for U.S. citizens is not automatically offered to Indian passports. Choose only what the form displays. See Tanzania eVisa for US citizens only if you are actually traveling on a U.S. passport.

If a Tanzanian company invited you to work, that may be a different immigration route than a tourist eVisa. Conference travelers should use the conference eVisa FAQ as well.

Fees in practice

On this website, government application fees are listed as:

ProductGovernment feeService feeExample total, one passenger
Tourist single entryUS$95US$59.99US$154.99
Business single entryUS$295US$59.99US$354.99
TransitUS$75US$59.99US$134.99

A family of four on tourist visas is four government fees and four service fees, not one “family visa.” Confirm the live total on fees. INR card billing will follow your bank's USD conversion, not a Tanzania shilling rate. Everyday cash in Tanzania is a separate topic; see the currency guide.

Park fees and safari packages are not included. Read Tanzania eVisa fees explained.

Documents and name spelling

  • Indian passport, typically valid at least six months from arrival, with an unused page
  • Full bio-page scan without glare, including the signature strip and MRZ
  • Recent photograph
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Hotel, lodge or host details that match the form dates
  • For business: invitation or assignment letter
  • For children: each child's passport plus consent documents in the children's guide

Indian passports often carry split given names. Spell them as in the passport, not as in a WhatsApp itinerary. If the ticket truncates a long name, immigration still reads the passport. Fix the ticket when the truncation hides a different person; do not “fix” the visa by shortening the legal name.

A PAN card, Aadhaar PDF or OCI booklet is not a substitute bio page.

Flights via the Gulf, Addis and Nairobi

Common routings from India arrive at Dar es Salaam (DAR), Kilimanjaro (JRO) or Zanzibar (ZNZ), often via Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Addis Ababa or Nairobi.

Put the first Tanzania immigration airport on the application. A connection in Nairobi is Kenya, not Tanzania. If you pass immigration in Kenya and later cross a land border, you need a Tanzania authorization before that Tanzanian post, and a Kenya plan that is separate. Designated land posts are listed in the entry-points FAQ.

Zanzibar does not issue a separate tourist visa for the same entry. You still need the Tanzania authorization, and you should check current island insurance rules. See Zanzibar visa rules.

Yellow-fever certificate questions depend on routing, including some African transits, not on holding an Indian passport alone. Check the rule for the exact path.

Family groups, weddings and school holidays

Indian family safaris and destination events often involve five or more travelers. Each person needs an application status and a passport. A group file can keep the itinerary together; it does not create one shared visa. See the family/group checklist for the per-group limit on this service.

Wedding-season and school-holiday peaks fill lodges and seats. Apply once dates are real enough to print, with enough slack to replace a rejected scan. Do not wait until the last Friday before a Saturday departure from BOM or DEL.

Timing

Apply early enough for:

  • Up to 15 business days' processing
  • The form's 12-day arrival minimum
  • Time to replace a rejected scan
  • Possible extra questions on a family file

Last-minute applications are a poor match for prepaid safari camps. See processing time. This is not a 24-hour product; the urgent FAQ explains why.

Photograph the passport on a plain dark surface. Indian laminates glare easily under a phone flash. If the MRZ line is unreadable, the file will come back regardless of how complete the safari voucher is.

If relatives in Dar es Salaam or Arusha are hosting, put a real address and a reachable phone. “Friend in Tanzania” with no details is not a host record.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a Tanzania visa on arrival with an Indian passport?

Do not plan a boarding strategy around an airport queue after a long Gulf connection. Check current eligibility, then decide whether an eVisa in advance is the safer file for your airline. Comparison: eVisa vs visa on arrival.

Is an OCI card enough without an Indian passport?

No. Apply and travel on a valid passport.

We are a family of five.

Each person needs their own status. Add passengers on the same itinerary only within the group rules.

Can I extend in Tanzania?

Extension, when available, is a separate immigration process after arrival. Do not buy a tourist eVisa assuming you can convert it into residence or work.

Can I pay in rupees on this site?

This site's visa fees are quoted in US dollars. Your bank may bill INR.
